Aeolian Islands

The Aeolian Islands, also known as the Lipari Islands are an archipelago of volcanic origin, situated in the Tyrrhenian Sea, in the province of Messina, in the north coast of Sicily. Included are two very active volcanoes, Stromboli and Vulcano, in addition to various phenomena of secondary volcanism.
The archipelago consists of the following islands:
  • Alicudi
  • Filicudi
  • Lipari
  • Panarea with the islets of basaltic Basiluzzo, Dattilo and Lisca Bianca.
  • Salina
  • Stromboli (with the nearby cliff Strombolicchio)
