Cinque Terre

Cinque Terre is the name under which they will define a jagged coastline of the Ligurian Riviera di Levante is located in the province of La Spezia Mesco between Punta and Punta di Montenero, in which there are five villages, or, as it was anciently, Cinque Terre , namely
  • Monterosso
  • Vernazza
  • Corniglia (a hamlet of Vernazza)
  • Manarola (a hamlet of Riomaggiore)
  • Riomaggiore
The Cinque Terre, due to geographical and anthropomorphic characteristics of the territory where they arise, are one of the major tourist attractions of the Riviera of Liguria La Spezia and in general. Indeed, the orographic context is very particular, ie a naturally hilly terrain rough and rugged, softened by the construction of terraces or bands for the crop, which falls into the sea with steep slopes.
The work of man over the centuries has shaped the area without altering the delicate ecological balance, but enhancing the beauty, as the need for the terraced slopes, due to the particular farming technology aimed at exploiting the land as possible in high places gradient that slopes towards the sea, making it one of the most distinctive and fascinating landscapes of Liguria.
In 1997, at the request of the Province of La Spezia, the Cinque Terre, together with Portovenere and the islands of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto have been included among the World Heritage Site.
In 1998, the Ministry of Environment established the Cinque Terre Marine Protected Area for environmental protection, protection and exploitation of biological resources for the dissemination and promotion of sustainable socio-economic development compatible with the relevance of naturalistic landscape ' area.
In 1999 was established the National Park of Cinque Terre for the conservation of ecological balance, preservation of the landscape, the protection anthropological site.
The Cinque Terre are part of the Mountain Community of Riviera La Spezia.
