Acate (Vischiri in Sicilian) is a municipality in the province of Ragusa.
Until 1938 his name was Biscari: the change was proposed by a local scholar Charles Addario.
The city is known for an incident during World War II, known to history as the massacre of Biscari.
Acate is located in Dirillo River valley, 34 kilometers from Ragusa. It is the town's westernmost province.
Once, the river Dirillo was called Achates by the Romans, for the discovery of agate stones in its upper reaches.
The economy is mainly based on agriculture: vineyards, olive trees and citrus.
