Eagle Castle controlled the watershed between the valley and the Val Arroscia Pennavaira: probably built in the late eleventh century, was disputed for centuries between Clavesana, the municipality of Albenga and Del Carretto of Zuccarello.
The small towns that now form the town were built in time for the route leading to the castle, of which a few ruins remain today.
The road climbs steeply, then the first among the olive trees in the forest of chestnut trees.
