Arcola (SP)

Liguria (Italy)

The ancient Arcula small fortress in Roman times was a military station on the Via Aurelia, an outpost against the Ligurian.
Developed as a village of the Middle Ages, when Luni was abandoned.
Belonged to Obertenghi, who built the castle (now the Town Hall after the renovation of 1884) with the tower, and the church of St. Nicholas, built in 1500.
The Genoese made it a bulwark against the expansion of Pisa.
Passed in 1320 to Castruccio Castracani devastated by Visconti troops in 1430, only in 1494 was returned to Genoa.
The town extends along a gentle slope towards the Magra.
The territory was fully terraced and planted with vines and olives, viticulture (grape Albarola the typical) and the production of fine wine (Vermentino Colli di Luni doc, red fruit, white mixed with the scent of wood) are still a resource, despite the partial abandonment of the land.
Park River Arcola Slim interesting, with the path along the river suitable for mountain biking and a gym in the green.
Our Lady of Angels is a shrine built in the sixteenth century on the site of a Marian apparition, and holds the remains of St. Crescentia.
Remarkable altarpiece by Andrea Podenzana, the seventeenth century.
The high relief wood behind the choir is attributed to Maragliano.
DIN is an ancient settlement, of uncertain origin; equally uncertain origins of the parish of St. Stephen and Margaret, perhaps built on a pagan temple.
There is also the seventeenth-century villa Picedi.
Trebiano overlooking the valley of Romito, and offers a unique view of the lower valley of the Magra and beyond to Marina di Massa.
The castle of the tenth century, square and square towers, including a walkway passing aircraft built in the seventeenth century, when the fortress was used as a lookout.
In the kitchen, bathroom wine delicacies such as ravioli filled with borage and nettles with pork, the Touch (traditional sauce), the rabbit farming.
The milk is an old liqueur sabayon.
