City among the most important of the Etruscan League also held a leading position in Roman times between the cities of the Italian peninsula. In the Middle Ages was one of the first to give himself a popular government, and in the thirteenth and fourteenth century, under the leadership of its bishops were powerful warriors as they head to the republic, the Ghibellines. Monuments and works of art are in:

* Santa Maria della Pieve (XII century) is one of the most original examples of architecture
Romanesque.
* Piazza Grande: the buildings that surround you can read the evolution of
Civil aretina six centuries, from the housing of the '200 and '300 in alignment
Two stately bearing tower, the palace of the Fraternity of the Laity from the façade
Gothic and Renaissance architecture, the apse of Santa Maria della Pieve adjacent Palazzo
Court eighteenth century to the sixteenth-century Loggia of Vasari.
* The Cathedral (secc. XIII, XIV, XV): one of the major monuments of the Gothic in Tuscany
famous for the beautiful stained glass windows by Guglielmo de Marcillat. It preserves works
art of great value including the cenotaph of Bishop Tarlati and the altar
are two wonderful examples of Gothic sculpture and Piero della Maddalena
Francesca.
* San Domenico (XIII): in this church, curiously skewed by the facade
Inside it is the great Christ painted by Cimabue and an interesting series of frescoes
Arezzo school fourteenth and fifteenth century.
* St. Francis (secc. XIII and XIV): with its single large nave is covered by trusses
one of the most magnificent examples of Gothic monastery in Tuscany. In the central chapel
the chorus is the greatest work of Piero della Francesca, the great cycle of frescoes
depicting the Legend of the True Cross, considered one of the greatest testimonies
aesthetic ideals acquired in the culture of the early Renaissance.
* Badia of SS.Flora and Lucilia: rebuilt by Vasari (XVI) on a former temple
Gothic of which are visible traces. Preserve with many works of merit
a crucifix on the table Sienese Mark di Bonaventura.
* Santa Maria in Gradi is the greatest example of mannerism in Arezzo
created by the Florentine Bartolomeo Ammarinati (XVI). Inside you can admire
a wonderful Pentecost by Andrea della Robbia.
* SSAnnunziata: harmonious Renaissance church due to Bartolomeo della Gatta
(XV) and Antonio da Sangallo (XVI).
Elegant late Gothic temple on the outskirts of the city adorned by an elegant portico of Benedetto da Majano (XV).
Its main altar is the only work done in marble by Andrea della Robbia.

In area Bagnoro is one of the most beautiful Romanesque churches in Bavaria
Arezzo. A few kilometers from the city to visit a Buriano Bridge, the bridge
millennial crossing the Arno near Arezzo, whose structure is the same, some
years before 1000 replaced an even older.
