Barano Ischia is a municipality in the province of Naples, located in the southwest of the island of Ischia.
This is a typical hill town that still retains rural characteristics.
Entering the town is marked by the ancient aqueduct called the Pillars (1470).
To note the Torre dei Saraceni in Testaccio, the windmills of Montebarano, placed at the gates of some estates notables of the past, hundreds of cellars under (to maintain the wine) and had the snow (for keep the ice for the summer).
Worth mentioning also houses carusiello which originated the dance known as' A Vatta and ll'Astreche Fiaiano and the pine forest where you can admire the postcard of the Bay of Naples.
Interesting points, including from tourism point of view are, for example, the beach of Ischia, as the rest of the island has modern hotels, the aforementioned pine Fiaiano the hill Cretaio (homonymous church of the eighteenth century. ) Buceto sources, the hill Schiappone (Church of Our Lady Montevergine sec. XVII), and the villages of Testaccio, Buonopane (famous for the ancient folk dance mascara and the source of Nitrodi) and Piedimonte.
To see even then the square of Barano, which is the heart of all activities, home to two churches: St. Sebastian and St. Roch, on one side of the square you can see the buildings of 1700 and 1800.
Finally, the church of St. John the Baptist, one of the oldest island (1400) with a canvas dating back to the school of Caravaggio.
Initially called only Barano, in 1862 the City chose to call Barano of Ischia.
