Borzonasca (GE)

Liguria (Italy)

Sturla rises over the river in the middle of an endorsement of great historical and environmental.
The Monte Aiona, which reaches 1,700 meters and lies in dell'Aveto Park is one of the highest peaks of the Ligurian Apennines, and can be reached through paths that give way to appreciate the pristine wilderness and beautiful places.
The abbey of Borzone is easily reached from downtown Borzonasca.
And 'one of the oldest settlements Benedictine Italy, founded by the monks of St. Columba and raised to Abbey in 1184 by Ugone della Volta, Archbishop of Genoa, who donated to the Benedictines of Marseille for the remediation and the cultivation of the valley .
The monks began a patient work of terracing and irrigation of which little remains today, except for areas closest to population centers is possible to see along the trails, the remains of stone walls now swallowed up by the forest.
Another impressive evidence of the presence of monks is the Face of Borzone Megalithic carved on the Rock, near the Abbey.
Hence a deviation leads to the church of San Martino di Licciorno, sacred building intact but no longer attractive for its location and the mystery of its origins.
Lakes and rivers offer plenty of choice for fishermen, and not only: the Lake of Lame and Lake Giacopiane excursion are also well known and appreciated, as the Park Agoraie.
There are many routes from the valley to rejoin the High Street of the Ligurian Mountains, and there's such Zatta the mountain at 1000 meters to 1500 meters Pratomollo refuge.
These courses provide an opportunity to appreciate the wealth of fauna and environment, and to know closely the lives of farmers and herders in traditional huts and houses, where you can also buy local products, like honey and chestnut flour, salami, cheeses and especially mushrooms.
