The town of Castronuovo di Sant’Andrea located in the middle valley of the Sinni, 650 meters above sea level.
The town is made up two parts: a recently placed along the road, and the other, older, made up of three districts: Manca, Trappeto Castello.
In the old town can still see the old medieval buildings with narrow streets and steep, long arcs in the homes that allow communication between the different lanes.
According to some historians dating back to its origins, presumably, to the Roman period as a military post at the time of servile war, to stop Spartacus, who wandered around.
According to others, its foundation took place during the barbarian invasions.
Around the fortress, built by the barbarians, gradually arose a village surrounded by walls.
After the unification of Italy in Castronuovo lorded the Brigantes who found refuge in a great wooded expanse of the place.
In 1863 the name was added Castronuovo that of his beloved son St. Andrew Avellino, which was discovered in 1521 by Margaret and John Avellino Apelles.
He was ordained priest in 1545 and in October of 1547 he moved to Naples to attend law school.
During his lifetime he wrote several books and about three thousand letters, many of these principles and noblewomen.
It was a great reformer of the church and traveled extensively.
On 10 November 1608, while in the church of San Paolo Maggiore (Naples) was preparing to celebrate mass, was hit by an attack of apoplexy at the foot of the altar.

In outstanding architectural heritage: the mother church of Santa Maria della Neve (fifteenth century); the chapel of St. Andrew, the churches of Our Lady of Grace and Our Lady of the Stars, the castle marquis, the former palace of Speziale.
Also, there are forests rich in flora and fauna, there are chestnuts, mushrooms and truffles.
Among the dishes you can taste the homemade pasta topped with the sauce and horseradish (truffles of the poor), or with the crumb fried with pepper powder.
Is also good to taste the rafanata (horseradish).
