Town in the province of Cagliari, 49 km SW of the capital, to 66 masl the valley of the Riu Mannu. Municipality of 96.78 km2, production of fruit and wine, forestry, sheep and goats. Eighteenth-century church.
Chia, a town on the southern coast, is famous for its system of dunes that stretches to Cape Spartivento and which should become the heart of a nature reserve in the region.
Behind the beaches of white sand gets up a cordon of dunes up to 24 m, they live on twisted juniper trees and a pond that winter home to egrets, herons, loons and other migratory waterfowl.
The village of Chia, a village of Domus de Maria, is made few houses surrounded by large green trees of figs, and a couple of choices for the holidays.
The clear water bay is closed by a ridge dominated by a Spanish tower and red rocks covered by the low maquis.
At the foot of the tower you can visit the few remnants of the old Phoenician-Punic Bithia, mentioned by Ptolemy, but never reached the importance of Nora and Tharros.
The city, not yet completely unearthed and hidden for centuries from the sea, some graves have been Phoenician, Punic and Roman ruins next to a temple probably dedicated to the god Bes.
Surroundings: the coast to Cape Spartivento is a succession of beautiful bays, dunes and pine trees within walking distance or along a dirt road.
