At the center of town is a squat and unfinished Aragonese tower, but Ghilarza is best known for being the town where he lived Antonio Gramsci.
A small door that opens onto Corso Umberto gives access to the house of Gramsci, the location of a study center where they are exposed and historical materials on the figure of the Communist leader killed by the prisons of the fascist regime.
On the second floor there is a small bedroom, undressed and quiet, which was one in which Gramsci lived from 1898 until 1908.
Not far from Ghilarza, following the road to Nuoro, you can admire the beautiful church of San Pietro di Zuri, moved to the village with the same name in its present position after flooding that has given rise to the artificial lake Omodeo in 1923.
The reconstructed church dating back to 1291 and was commissioned by the court architect of Arborea Mariano Anselm of Como: the architecture is Romanesque, although some details are already sees the transition to Gothic.
