Laconi (OR)

Sardinia (Italy)

The geographical features and the morphological complexity of the territory of Laconi had a decisive influence on the ways in which man, in time, has attended these places in an attempt to take advantage of the great natural resources.
According to the results of archaeological research, it can be argued that the presence of man dates back to the Early Neolithic Laconi (6000/4500 BC).
Later, in the final stages of the Neolithic and early Metal Age (3700/2400 BC), originated the first clusters of huts, real organized villages.
It is these people have become protagonists of a phenomenon of sculptural art that expresses to very high levels figurative worship "heroes" and "gods": the menhir and menhir statues.
The menhirs are monoliths of different sizes, sometimes finely crafted, reproducing distinctive characteristics of the human figure, such as eyes and nose.
Menhir statues are full of details that allow the distinction between gender and social class membership.
Today menhirs see beautiful exhibition spaces in the Civic Archaeological Museum, unique in Italy, and constitute the most important scientific aspect.
During the medieval period the City of Laconi had a significant importance as the seat of the marquis and the characteristics of the urban express unequivocally its history.
Until the first half of the 800 Laconi had the medieval castle and the park surrounding the epicenter of political, economic and feudal.
This city plan, it will only exceeded 800, with the building, designed by Cima, the new home of the Marquis of Laconi, Palazzo Aymerich, now owned by the City and future home of the Museum of the menhir.
Laconi is also known for being the birthplace of St. Ignatius of Laconi, who was born in Cagliari in 1701 and died at the age of eighty.
Cappuccino, acquired great fame for the many miracles in life and realized that, even today, is the subject of widespread veneration in Sardinia.
Laconi dedicated to the Holy Day Main, at which thousands of pilgrims visiting the shrine to honor him.

Crafts and Typical Products
Among the local products can be reported herb liqueurs produced by a family company.
The pristine environment of our region has always offered a variety of aromatic and medicinal plants which are still carefully selected to obtain distillates, infusions and extracts.
Among the major product recall liquor Melissa, Maria Luisa, thyme, Gineprino, and the most common myrtle liqueur obtained by maceration alcoholic infusion of the berries known for its digestive properties.
There are also producers of pecorino cheese, honey, typical Sardinian bread, and desserts.
In particular, note the typical sweet of the winter period, the Pan di Sapa, obtained from a mixture of dried fruits and cooked must.
