Historical sources date its origin already in the Neolithic and today retains all the charm of the medieval character. Spread over three hills, colle del Castello, dell’Incoronata e del Serro della Croce. Monteverde was feud of many noble families, including the Grimaldi of Monaco, from 1532 to 1640, then was owned by the Caracciolo. In 1695 he was put on sale by Charles II of Spain and purchased by Baron Michele San Germano. The country belonged to this family until the abolition of feudal rights in 1806.
