Gardena Valley - Trentino-Südtirol (Italy)

Santa Cristina Val Gardena (lad. S. ridge-Gherdëina, Ger. St.Christina in Gröden) is a municipality in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano.
The municipality is located in Val Gardena, Ortisei between west and east Selva di Val Gardena, and ranges from 1250 to 3179 m above sea level.
The population is over 90% of the Ladin language:
The name is attested as S. Kristein in 1277 and as St. Christina in 1323. Before 1923 the town was called Santa Cristina in Gardena and Santa Cristina 1923 to 1955.
Located in the Dolomites, its economy is mainly based on tourism, mainly in winter (ski resort), but also a strong summer (July-August).
