Selva di Val Gardena (lad. Sëlva, Ger. Wolkenstein in Gröden) is a town of 2,589 inhabitants of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, situated in the Dolomites, in the upper Val Gardena.
Its population is the vast majority of native Ladin.
Bordered to the west, downstream, with Santa Cristina Val Gardena.
The name is attested as Silva Zilve, Cylve in 1166 and derives from the Latin silva (forest). Until 1923 the country was called Selva Gardena Selva from 1923 to 1955.
There are disputed races downhill and Super G are valid for the World Cup downhill on the famous Saslong. Selva is also famous thanks to the famous skiers like Peter Runggaldier and Werner Perathoner.
The resort is very popular both with tourists and winter than in summer. Many go there to enjoy the ski slopes in the shadow of the impressive peaks Sassolungo and Sella (Sella Ronda).

Selva is located at the Alpine Training Centre of the Carabinieri, set October 15, 1968, with the central functions of specialized courses for skiers and climbers. At the training center held special courses skiing, mountaineering, for conductors of dogs and mountain rescue and ski mountaineering for special departments.
The town boasts the highest circulation of solar panels in Italy. In the area of 2000 m2 panels are installed at an average of almost 800 m2 per thousand inhabitants.
