Tolmezzo, dominated by the large amount of Monte Amariana (d. 1906), bounded on the east dall'alveo vines, and widens into a broad plain at the confluence of the valleys Carnia.
Coming from the south, after the industrial area, the route Chiamue leads into the heart of the city.
Lined the huge complex of what was once the textile factory Linussio, we reach the eighteenth century Palazzo Linussio, former home of James Linussio and currently used as a barracks.
On the front side of the contemporary chapel was located in Santa Maria Annunziata.
Both buildings were designed by the architect Domenico Schiavi tolmezzino.
Linussio left the Palace, we arrive in a short historical center tolmezzino through Porta di Sotto, the powerful artifact, originally two-fourteenth century, represents one of the few remnants of the walls enclosing the original core of the town.
Another witness of medieval times is Ianes House, with its distinctive Gothic windows in nearby Piazza Mazzini, where you can admire the Church of St. Catherine, whose current building dates back to 700, with a fine blade painter Pordenone Pomponio Amalteo.
The arcades of Via Roma leads to the main square, dominated by the imposing presence of the cathedral rebuilt in the eighteenth century by the capomastroarchitetto tolmezzino Domenico Schiavi.
It preserves many interesting works including the paintings deserve a special mention of the Apostles Nicola Grassi, some altarpieces for Venetian art of the eighteenth century, and the font sixteenth attributed to the master Comacine Bernardino Bissone.
Refer to the original construction of the bas-reliefs of Christ the Redeemer of the learner and Romanesque walled outside the sacristy.
After the central village of the mold, it is imperative to visit the museum Gortani, one of the most representative ethnographic museums in the Alps, not to be missed opportunity for a deepening of the vicissitudes of local life and reflected in their arts, crafts in the events of daily living (open from 9 to 13 and from 15 to 18, except Mondays).
The conclusion of this process could be an excursion to the Tower Picotta recently restructured along the path that takes you, which is an easy walk, allowing a wide view over the whole basin tolmezzina.
The tower, visible from afar, gives a strong impression to the landscape of Tolmezzo connecting to that key moment in its history which was the medieval age.
