Pontine Islands - Lazio (Italy)

Ventotene is a town in the province of Latina, lies on the island of the same name and the nearby smaller island of Santo Stefano, both belonging to the archipelago of the Pontine islands (or Ponziane Islands), in the Tyrrhenian Sea.
It is the smallest municipalities in terms of size of central Italy.
Ventotene is also known for the Manifesto of Ventotene (drawn up by Altiero Spinelli and Ernesto Rossi, opponents of the fascist regime confined therein), which, in 1941, in the middle of World War called for the Union of European countries and that will be the ideal reference which will look in many subsequent years the process of continental integration.
Among the other is confined to recall the former President of the Republic, Sandro Pertini, Umberto Terracini, Giorgio Amendola, Lelio Basso, Mauro Scoccimarro and Giuseppe Romita.
