Verbania (VB)

Maggiore Lake - Piedmont (Italy)

Verbania is a city capital of the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, situated on the banks of Lake Maggiore or Verbano.
The town was founded in 1939 by the union of the towns of Intra and Pallanza and became a provincial capital in 1992. Verbania tourism has developed due to its privileged geographic position. Of particular interest are the botanical gardens of Villa Taranto, located between the towns of Intra and Pallanza.
The town was established in the first half of the twentieth century during Fascism: Trobaso in 1927 and were attached to Zoverallo Intra, while Cavandone Suna and were aggregated at Pallanza. Was incorporated in 1929 Unchio Intra. Finally, by Royal Decree 702 of April 4, 1939 were united the two towns of Intra and Pallanza. Until then the name was Verbania still remained tied to this area, though without a precise connotation. The name comes from the Lake Maggiore, which is also called Verbano.
Verbania in 2007 was formally awarded the title of city, already possessed by both common deleted Intra and Pallanza.
