Who goes up the valley Marecchia see a short distance from the sea, high rocky cliffs overlooking the River.
The first of these, in a privileged position so as to push the spectacular view across the Adriatic coast and the first mountains of 'Apennines, lies Verucchio.
Higher than all the mighty fortress that dominates the village as a place chosen by the Malatesta family of origin.
A capital Malatesta then, but boasting an ancient history of millennia, the story of a fine people today told in a museum where you can admire exhibits of extraordinary beauty, unique in Italy.
Between the ninth and seventh centuries BC, a people living in Verucchio evolved, it is claimed of Etruscan origin, who left works of art and culture incredibly refined.
This is called Civilization Villanova (but would be more correct to say Verucchiese-Villanova) who, after many excavations we now know through rare fabrics, wooden objects, bronzes, ceramics, precious gold and amber jewelry, weapons and tools of everyday life.
Practically the only great throne inlaid wood that was found.
All these materials are collected in the Archaeological Museum housed in a former monastery, the quality of exhibits and setting make it a museum of international importance.
After the splendours of this civilization other splendors mark Verucchio Malatesta era, between the Middle Ages and Renaissance.
Verucchio is traditionally called 'Cradle of Malatesta', to show the privileged link of the house with this castle. For nearly three hundred years the Malatesta ruled the city by enhancing the defensive structures and enriching the village of civil and religious.
The old town is still clearly mark and the many medieval monuments to visit, also dating to later periods, are signs of a rich history that is today the basis of national tourism development.
