Ascoli Piceno province


The surface of the Province of Ascoli Piceno is slightly greater than 2,000 square kilometers.
The area has a predominantly mountainous appearance, with its mountains Carrier, Sibilla Mountain of Flowers and characterizing the Adriatic coast in the Marche region.
The group of the Sibyl, for some, takes its name from Sabellini or Sabelli that inhabit this land.
A legend says that the Sibyl Apennines lived in the famous cave still exists between these mountains.
Tronto River flows into the territory for a distance of 75 km.
Provincial capital is the city of Ascoli Piceno (seat of the Prefecture, Episcopal, Civil Court Criminal Revenue Agency, Military District).
Picena important traces of civilization and rich cemeteries.
Located on Tronto, about 30 km from the Adriatic, was subjugated to Rome with the whole Piceno in 268 a. C.
When the Romans knew these lands, they seized the welfare and wealth considering favorite place for holidays and accommodation.
First as a seasonal guests, then through ever more lavish homes and villas, is imposed for the prestige of being citizens of the capital of much of Italy.
They built temples, tanks, taverns, monuments, tombs.
In the years 16-15 a. C., by the will of Caesar Octavian Augustus, the Salaria, a little over a path, was elevated to the rank of consular road.
Gentle hills constitute the watershed of right and left of the Tronto river on which there are the towns of Castel di Lama, Colli del Tronto, Spinetoli, Monsampolo, Monteprandone, Appignano, Offida, Acquasanta Arquata.
Important figures in art, literature, science, have honored the name: Cecco d'Ascoli, Ferdinand Cicconi, Giulio and Ignazio Cantalamessa et al.
Land rich in traditions, sights, tastes and flavors. Large and famous, the resort area of St. Benedetto del Tronto.
