Abruzzo is an administrative region of Italy to 1.3 million, with capital L'Aquila.
Bordered to the north with the Marches, south-west by Lazio, Molise to the south and east with the sea Adriatic.
The Abruzzo region occupies an area of 10,798 square kilometers, the population at December 2004 was 1,299,272 inhabitants.
It is divided into four provinces: L'Aquila, Pescara, Chieti and Teramo.
Predominantly mountainous region, is formed to 65.1% by mountains and the remaining 34.9% by hills.
The plain is composed of a narrow coastal strip that follows the coastline.
The region has the highest peaks of the Apennines, the Gran Sasso of Italy 2914 high me Majella massif 2791 m
The main rivers are the Aterno-Pescara, Sangro, the Tronto, the Trigno the Tordino the Vomano and the upper course of the Liri, which flows into the Tyrrhenian Sea.
