Apulia is a region of Southern Italy with Bari town is bordered to the west, Molise, Campania and Basilicata in the south with the Ionian Sea to the east and north with the Adriatic Sea.
Covering the provinces of Bari, Barletta-Andria-Trani, Brindisi, Lecce, Foggia and Taranto.
Its name derives from the historical population of Apulia Apulia.
Puglia is the easternmost region of Italy: Punta Palasca (Otranto, Salento), is about 80 km from the coasts of Albania and is the point located in the east of Italy.
Its land is flat to 53.3%, 45.3% for the hilly and mountainous only for 1, 5%.
The territory is then divided between hilly and flat, although there are individual scattered on the mountains near Gargano, on Daunia and Murge.
The hilly landscape embraces the Gargano, the Preappennines Dauno, Murge Bari, Taranto and Brindisi. The remainder is divided between the table plains of Puglia, the land of Bari and the Salento plains.
Puglia is washed by the Adriatic and the Ionian Sea. Inland waters are almost slim. There is no river runs except Ofanto, although for the short final section. The only lake water, where it draws the Apulian Aqueduct, is Lake Occhito located on the border with Molise.
At the time of the ancient Romans, Puglia included a huge area that extended into a part of the Molise, Campania and Basilicata.
Tourism is very developed thanks to the beautiful beaches of the Gargano, Islands Tremiti and the beauties of Salento.
Also of note is the unique architecture of the Valle d'Itria with its Trulli, built in the sixteenth century. To remember the magnificent cathedrals of Bitonto, Trani and Bari, and the Castel del Monte in Andria singular, please baroque architecture of Lecce and the whole Salento.
The region is also rich in sites and remains of the ancient peoples that once lived in the past: excavations messapici between the provinces of Brindisi and Lecce, permanent exhibitions of artifacts from the Magna Graecia and the National Archaeological Museum of Taranto and the archaeological excavations and the National Museum of Egnatia.
Among the most unusual attractions are the caves of Castellana, the wildlife park of animals greater freedom of Italy in Fasano and uniqueness of the white town of Ostuni.
Religious tourism is mainly driven by the Shrine of St. Pio of Pietrelcina in San Giovanni Rotondo, while business tourism is attracted by the importance of Fiera del Levante in Bari.
