Tuscany is one of the largest Italian regions for the historical, artistic, and cultural landscape.
Besides being the cradle of the Renaissance and the Italian language, which is derived almost entirely from the Tuscan dialect, in Tuscany have occurred for the first time in history two great achievements of humanity: equal rights for men and women during the Etruscan civilization and the abolition of the death in the Grand Duchy of Tuscany November 30, 1786 thanks to Peter Leopold of Lorraine.
Mail in central Italy, bordered to the north-west with Liguria to the north with the Emilia-Romagna, on the east by the Marches and Umbria, to the south with Lazio. To the west, its 397 km of continental coastline are bathed by the Ligurian Sea in the north-central section between Marina di Carrara (border with Liguria) and the Gulf of Baratti and the Tyrrhenian Sea washes the other hand the southern coast between the promontory of Piombino Chiarone and the mouth of the river, which marks the border with Lazio.
The Tuscany also administers the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago: Gorgona in the Ligurian Sea, Capraia in the Channel of Corsica, the Island of Elba, between the Ligurian Sea, the Channel of Corsica, the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Channel of Piombino islands of Pianosa, Montecristo, Giglio and Giannutri in the Tyrrhenian Sea. In total, the islands of the Tuscan develop along 230 km of coastline.
The regional capital is Florence, the other provincial capitals are Arezzo, Grosseto, Livorno, Lucca, Massa Carrara, Pisa, Pistoia, Prato and Siena.
Tuscan territory is mostly hilly (66.5%) includes some plains (approximately 8, 4% of the territory) and major mountain ranges (25.1% of the region).
