Island (20.1 km2) of the Tyrrhenian Sea at the northeastern coast of Sardinia (Punta Sardegna), between the islands of Caprera, which separates the Passo della Moneta, Spargi and Santo Stefano.
Composed of granite, has nearly triangular, with a jagged coastline (45 km perimeter), culminates at 146 m upstream in the mount Vecchia Guardia.
The island is connected to Caprera by a road built on a dam that exceeds the shallow pitch of the Passo della Moneta.
The mild climate and beautiful scenery make it a popular tourist destination.
Main resources: fisheries and viticulture.
Main center is La Maddalena, on the southern coast, the capital of the eponymous town of the province of Olbia-Tempio.
